Living Up in a Year of Opportunity

One of the things I like to do most of all for recreation is to ride my motorcycle. It’s so different to driving a car because most of the time when you are in a car, it’s more about the destination than the drive.

Riding a motor cycle is as much about the enjoyment of the ride as it is getting to the destination.

As we start our new year I would like to really encourage everyone to make sure that you are really enjoying the journey. So often in the New Year we are setting goals and planning for new adventures and breakthroughs in life, (which is absolutely fantastic by the way) but as the year progresses it can become a consistent battle to achieve our desires that we lose sight of the important fact that life is to be enjoyed.

Of coarse, we need to be people who are focused, determined and disciplined enough to dream, believe and achieve more than the masses do, but what would it prosper us to get to our destination only to find that most of our life was not enjoyed.

Here are three simple thoughts that you might want to jot down somewhere handy so you can keep on the track in enjoying your Expansive Life in 2009.

1: Being Thankful:

The attitude of thankfulness will keep your life in perspective.

When people say: “I’ll be happy when I achieve (some goal or dream) it means that they are not really happy now. Why not be happy now, AND be excited about the possibilities of the future. This is a double whammy and it is our choice at any given moment to live this way.

2.  Appreciate Others:

When we appreciate others it builds us into bigger people. Make a point of complimenting family, friends work colleagues or anyone you come into contact with. who is doing a good job or needs some encouragement.

Nothing helps you enjoy the moment as much as encouraging others. The reality is, you never give anything away in life because whatever you give will come back to you on a multiplied fashion.

So if you want to live a full and Expansive life make a habit of building others. He or she who builds others will at the same time be building themselves.

3. Serve Others Well:

Whether you are an employee, self employed or a business person the major key to success is to serve well.

If you serve well as an employee sooner or later others will notice and you will be promoted whether it is with your current employer or a future one. Some employees may say “If they paid me better I might work a bit harder”. Unfortunately this will hold a person captive by their back to front attitude. And is not the attitude of the successful, who are enjoying life.

The one who has a serving attitude understands the law of compensation which says “every person is always rewarded according to the value of their service”.

Also the employer whose goal is giving excellent service above receiving financial reward, will not only build a great business but will also enjoy the journey. When business becomes slow they don’t stress saying: “How can we cut back on staff, advertising or products in fear of losing profits?”.  Instead they ask a different question such as: “How do we increase the quality of our service and products to our customers.”

The greatest people and businesses in the history of the world were and still are those who have given the best quality of service to others.

Those who are really enjoying their lives are not those who have many servants, but those who are giving the greatest service to others.

To all our Expansive Lives friends have a massive 2009 and ENJOY THE JOURNEY .

All the best,

Rick
