I must apologise for being a bit absent lately but I have been doing some extremely interesting things which have taken me on an exciting new journey.

Over the past year I have travelled as a Motivational Speaker to most capital cities in Australia, NZ and Malaysia. At the same time I have been connecting share traders into small support groups or teams in several countries.

Defining moments are the very things that can cast you into the depths of despair or launch us into an amazing success that we would never have believed possible.  In other words these times can literally define our character and our future for the better or worse and it will all hinge on our attitude and the decisions that we make.

Riding a motor cycle is as much about the enjoyment of the ride as it is getting to the destination.

As we start our new year I would like to really encourage everyone to make sure that you are really enjoying the journey. So often in the New Year we are setting goals and planning for new adventures and breakthroughs in life, (which is absolutely fantastic by the way) but as the year progresses it can become a consistent battle to achieve our desires that we lose sight of the important fact that life is to be enjoyed.

Of coarse, we need to be people who are focused, determined and disciplined enough to dream, believe and achieve more than the masses do, but what would it prosper us to get to our destination only to find that most of our life was not enjoyed.

Here are three simple thoughts that you might want to jot down somewhere handy so you can keep on the track in enjoying your Expansive Life in 2009.

That is a good question because for many people after reaching their ultimate goal, they end up taking a nose dive. You may have noticed this especially in the sporting arena where a team may play at an exceptional level to win the championship.  Only to find that the following year with same players and the same coach they struggle to win a game.

Many athletes after achieving their dream of winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games, come home and after the initial celebration, have feelings of emptiness and even depression. Why would this be?

In business it is the same. Companies that were strong and seemed to be virtually indestructible have now slipped into oblivion. Did you know that out of the original Fortune 500 companies only 71 remain on that list?

All of the above mentioned were exceptional people, teams and companies. The question is why did they not power on after achieving such greatness?

Why did they not power beyond the dream?

Let’s look at some possible reasons for this;

It is good to be passionate about the things we want, but often we are not as passionate about the execution of the tasks we must undertake to actually reach those desires.

As time goes by I have realised it is possible to be passionate to achieve a goal but fail because of the execution in the smaller tasks along the way.

In many goals setting workshops I have heard great emphasis on setting clear and definite goals, which I totally agree with by the way. The thing I have not heard much emphasis on is execution of tasks along the way. This is really amazing as without good execution we will often never reach the goals that we are so passionate about.

To do this, we must take responsibility for our own futures. Every time people blame the government, banks or the petrol companies for their difficulties, they’re actually making themselves victims and anyone who chooses to live with a victim mentality, will always be struggling in life.

The truth is, that within every challenge in life, there is an equal opportunity to produce something absolutely magnificent. During the great depression of the 1930's when everyone else was struggling to live, Andrew Carnegie built a multi-million dollar steel industry business.  That was back when $1 million was of much greater value than it is today.

Nothing has changed. Whilst many people are jumping on the band wagon saying how bad things are, there are other people who are taking advantage of the situation by asking themselves the question, “Where is the golden opportunity in all this”.
